The Ron Maslin Playhouse opened in May, 1996 with a production of The Importance of Being Earnest and had an extension added in 2001. Funding for the construction came from Kanata Theatre’s own building fund, and from a federal-provincial infrastructure grant. The then City of Kanata provided the site. The playhouse is on the western side of Kanata, just off Terry Fox Drive. There is free parking adjacent to the building, there is a bicycle rack at the rear, and there is bus access by OC-Transpo.
The playhouse has a 350-seat theatre, a workshop behind the stage, a large rehearsal hall, green room and large foyer with a cloakroom and a servery. In addition there are various storage spaces plus the box office facility. In the theatre, there are spaces reserved for wheelchair access, and there is a level path from the curb to the back rows of the auditorium. From the stage door, there is level access to the rehearsal space, the green room, stage and workshop.
