Johnston & Mackie was founded in 1875 by Andrew Johnston. The firm has changed ownership three times since, but has always remained a family business. Mary Hill is the brokerage’s current president. Mary is also the great granddaughter of Andrew Johnston.
Throughout the years, Johnston & Mackie has taken an active role in the community. In 1916, the brokerage not only sold insurance, but also marriage licenses and steamship tickets. One of the brokerage’s most prized possessions is a 107-year-old policy that is framed and on display in the office’s main entrance.
In 1987, Johnston & Mackie moved to their current Nelson Street location, and today, they focus solely on general insurance.
There’s something about being in business for 135+ years that earns you the respect of the best insurance providers in the business. And we work hard for that respect, especially from our clients, and it shows in the people we welcome as clients to Johnston & Mackie.
We understand that insurance today needs to be flexible and reliable. We appreciate what it takes to get into a new car, a new home or to keep another small business running profitably. We are the brokerage that truly gets that.
Part of what we value about our clients is that we have the opportunity to become involved in their lives. We know when children get married and when parents become grandparents. We see the ever-changing lives of people who insure with us. This is why we have focused on offering insurance as individual as you are.
You don’t live anybody else’s life. You shouldn’t have anybody else’s insurance.
